4ply Sock Wool
Hampshire Down 4ply Sock Wool, CreamWarrenfield Sock is a collaboration between Elizabeth Scott of Warrenfield Farm at Upper Clatford and Beaker Button. Elizabeth has a wonderful flock of Hampshire Down sheep and we buy her fleeces, get them spun at The Natural Fibre Co. in Cornwall then hand dyed each skein in our studio at the Fairground Craft Centre at Weyhill. The wool is a 4ply but has so much bounce and spring that it suits fine DK patterns as well. It has a lovely proper woolly texture, but is soft and lively to knit. Each skein is enough to knit a large pair of socks, crochet a beautiful shawl or make several matching pieces of Dorset button jewellery. Each skein is 100g (300m) approximately.
They are 100% Hampshire Down, spun with a high twist to give it some wear, kettle dyed using Procion dyes. Each skein will be slightly different, adding a special uniqueness to your projects. Warrenfield Sock is a lovely soft and lively wool with a proper woolly feel and lustre. The high twist in our skeins gives them good strength and wearability. As with most hand dyeing we advise washing separately the first couple of times. This wool is hand wash and we recommend using Soak.
All our skeins are made in small batches. We change our colours regularly and we can custom dye to order, so if there is a special project you want to make, get in touch to discuss your requirements.
